tortoise and the hare...

http://tinyurl.com/27k2f8
very inspiring... it shows that anything is possible, as long as you are willing to do it.

107km

i rode well today. slower pace. however i dropped back to help stan 'still' along mandai. it was quite depressing to see that he was rather demoralised and upset on how he gets dropped on saturday rides. i'm sure anyone who has done any sports will understand the feeling that he was going through in his mind, every f*cking one of them, uncle KT too. i feel that talent is gift, but if one were to train exceptionally hard and be focused on learning the right things along the way... his or her heart will overshadow the talents that others may posses. so when someone says "you have no talent", tell 'em to screw their backside and work your way up. it may take a long time, but when you are on the top (of everything), just remember that those who said those nasty stuff to you before are at the bottom, looking up at you.
good luck to the young lad.
i end this post with a very overused quote by lance armstrong:
"Pain is temporary, Quitting lasts forever..."

'f...ked up' kid

i was at my favourite bike store this afternoon picking up some stuff, and saw an eager father with uncle KT, getting a pinarello prince of spain fixed up for his son. sadly, on the looks of the young lad's face, one can immediately tell that he was more 'into' playing his handheld console than his brand new S$10 grand racing bicycle. (YES, its a 14yo kid with a pinarello prince of spain bike)
we have kids in the team whose parents don't give a rat's ass about their dreams or the their love for bikes, and to see that some of their parents not being supportive to their kids, even if they are one of the top local racers for their age group. but here, we have a random rich boy who doesn't even look appreciative at all... spoilt is the word most would say... wot a shame and i feel sorry for his father. indeed, life is not fair...
on the brighter side, i guess i can pretty much say i'm quite fortunate to have a father who cares for us and tries to provide us with what we want and most importantly, what we need. (maybe) my dad might not be able to provide both my brother and i each a pinarello prince bike decked with full campagnolo record parts and a nice set of carbon wheels, but we're more than grateful to have him 'sponsoring' a decent bike that will allow us to try and fulfill our dreams.
thanks papa (& mama).

boxing day

merry x'mas to all. though its a day late.
spent the entire x'mas afternoon and evening with my friend darryl and wilbur. was at darryl's basement jamming on his guitar heroes world tour kit. its just pure fun, quite a nice day spent. after which went for movies with them two. caught australia. i must say its quite an awesome film, but i got impatient halfway through because i had to go to the toilet but couldn't bear to leave the seat for it was so exciting (in a way).
rode in the morning about 80k, usual route. nothing special.
hmm, its been almost 5 months since we're back in singapore. boy i miss the feeling of traveling back home on a holiday break while i'm overseas.

woohoo

i'm on holiday! BOOYAH!
finally. but i've gotta get started on my world lit no1. want to get it over and done with before end of next week.
training this entire week was screwed up. i only managed to get onto my bike on wednesday. did an okay ride, meaning i didnt really attack or do much work. just sit behind and wheel suck, just to keep the level of fitness there. afterall season is over. and this morning was horrible. i woke up at 7am :( hence i missed the saturday ride. come sunday tmr, i pray for good weather. shall do two rides tmr. the 7am cworx 'newbie' ride and 0830thomson long house ride. i hope my level of fitness will still be there.
malvin and i are currently helping 'martselle' to 'up' his standards on his bike. 4 months ago, he had trouble trying to keep up on the 7am sunday 'newbie' ride. now he's riding with the faster group on the wednesday group rides and saturday long rides. wot can i say? everyone's happy for him. but the thing that made me truly admire him is his determination and passion for the bike, and i take my hat helmet off for him.
'martselle' is malay for a foreigner... okie, he's dutch and chinese so that makes him a chutch??
our next mission??? make "stan-still" ride faster!!! i'm quite glad we are having more and more juniors in cworx. hopefully some of them will make the distance one day.

identity crisis...tsk

this has been inside me for quite a while and so i'm letting off some steam:
conversing in singlish at an international school in singapore with my local classmates does not make me an 'ah-beng'.
it pisses me off when other local kids speak to their peers in their 'hollywood american accent', and when their parents ring them up on their mobile telephones, they switchto the singaporean side of them almost instantly, blabbering everything out to the folks on the other side of the line in singlish, just to assure them that their kids haven't been metamorph-ed into an 'ang-mo' (caucasian).
hey you guys speak singlish too, does that make you an 'ah-beng/ah-lian' as well??
f*ck you!
end.
